DESCRIPTION:Toi Tangata and Te Korowai Hauora O Hauraki would like to invite kaimahi & whanau to join us Monday October 14 at 9.30-3.00 pm in Paeroa (venue TBC). \nThis co-design process builds on mātauranga Māori concepts which encourages participants to work collaboratively to understand the lived experiences of whanau living with type 2 diabetes. \nThis wānanga is an opportunity for whanau and Health providers to understand barriers to wellness and identify challenges for our Paeroa whanau living with type 2 diabetes. \nWe will use pātaka as a metaphoric navigational tool to understand the global food chain’s effect on our environment\, our social wellbeing\, and the significant influence it has on our kai and health decision making. \nParticipants will leave this workshop better able to understand the complex landscape and: \n\nUnderstand what lived barriers to wellness are for Paeroa whanau\nUnderstand why whanau should attend regular diabetes annual reviews\nUnderstand why whanau should prioritise 6 monthly medication reviews\nUnderstand how and what it means to keep HbA1cs to 50-60mmol/mol\nUnderstand what the importance of reducing those who are over 60mmol/mol means\nHow to prevent renal and vascular complications\nHow food sovereignty and security may contribute to dietary quality and decision making.

SUMMARY:Toi Ako Wānanga: Māori solutions to increase participation in physical activity and sport.
DESCRIPTION:A one day wānanga about Maori solutions to increase participation in physical activity and sport.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nThis one day Toi Ako Wānanga will explore Māori solutions to increase participation in physical activity and sport. The framework of Te Pae Mahutonga will help guide the structure for the day which will consist of a combination of keynote presentations\, workshop and a panel discussion. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to examine enablers and barriers to participation\, and to workshop solutions to increasing Māori participation in sport and physical activity from a te ao Māori perspective. Iwi led examples as well as the role of reo Māori in sports will be looked into for improving whanau ora outcomes. \nThis event precedes Ngā Pūmanawa ki Pūrehuroa: Māori High Performance Symposium which will be held on 24 October 2019 by Te Pūtahi-a-Toi at Massey University in Palmerston North.
