Haere rā, Leonie

Mauri ora ki a koutou mai nga whānau o Toi Tangata. Ko tenei ta matou wa tuatahi, he watea ta matou hoa, ta matou rangatira, a Leonie Matoe. Tenei te mihi mahana ki a ia mo tona mahi he hapai te kaupapa oranga i roto i te huarahi kai me te korikori tinana, me te mahi hapai Toi Tangata. Mihi ki a koe, e hoa, i roto i to huarahi hau ki to hauo kainga o Taranaki.

As many of you are aware we have bid farewell to our leader Leonie Matoe, as she takes on new challenges within her iwi, Ngā Rauru Kiitahi, in the role of business manager for the subsidiary company Kiitahi Limited. While our team is tino sad to have her leave, we are excited for her as she gets to move home and contribute to her own whanau and iwi oranga.

Leo has been with the organisation for about 13 years, having first entered fresh and energised from university into the role of nutrition advisor for the nutrition and physical activity team, contributing and supporting with her knowledge of physical education and sporting excellence. Leo delivered many of the early ‘Kai totika whakapakari’ training courses around the country, upskilling the Māori health workforce of the time. Her leadership skills and knowledge were acknowledged when Leonie stepped into the role of NPA Manager.

Her innovation, creativity and willingness to try new approaches was a critical factor in the leadership of moving and evolving the brand and feel of Te Hotu Manawa Māori into the current brand, Toi Tangata, with a shift in focus to a positive health and wellbeing view, creating meaningful connections to kaupapa oranga Māori. Through this journey Leonie stepped into the role of Kaiwhakahaere Matua and with her skills and vision, enabled many people both within and the Toi Tangata team and the wider industry, the opportunity to flourish.

Our whānau here at Toi Tangata and the wider Māori health sector wish Leo the best on her new journeys ahead.
